In the summer of 2009, Team 1596 co-sponsored the FIRST Lego League(FLL) event, Movin' U.P., held at Lake Superior State University. Although it was a small competition, the scores were very close. Team 1596, despite being busy for the duration of the event, had lots of fun and hopes to offer more help in the future. We also had three students mentor the local Lego League team. The Soo Township Tigers won the Movin' U.P. Event and moved on to the State Competition in Flint, Michigan, where they won the Rookie Award. With the start of the FLL being so early compared to the school year, there were not that many teams that got started. Now that other teachers and students are aware of FLL, there have been numerous requests for information on starting teams. With all of the interest in new teams, LSSU hopes to have at least sixteen teams competing in the Movin' U.P. Tournement.

With Team 1596 being such a big party of the local FIRST Lego League team, we invited them to the Traverse City District Event. Our "Minstigators" had a great time watching the exciting competition that they can participate in within a few years
